Re: Historic designation of Buhl Planetarium

Dear City Council Members,

I am writing to voice support that the Buhl Planetarium building be designated a City-Designated Historic Structure. When I was growing up in
Pittsburgh, going to the Planetarium was a treat. As a budding scientist, the science center and planetarium was a place for children such as myself to learn more about ourselves, the world,

and the universe around us. As an adult, I look back to my childhood and the time spent at Buhl with great fondness and appreciation for the educational environment

and outlet it provided. I did not appreciate back then that many cities do not have their own science museums, let alone one with a public telescope, observation deck,

and planetarium theater.

The Buhl Planetarium building is historically relevant to Pittsburgh's past, and I hope that it will be around for generations to come. Please designate this architecturally-interesting building as a historic site so that this part of Pittsburgh's history cannot be easily demolished or altered without approval of the Historic Review Commission.

Respectfully,

Yuri Ann Saito-Loftus, M.D. M.P.H.
